Proverbs 2:16-19
“Wisdom will save you also from the adulterous woman, from the wayward woman with her seductive words, who has left the partner of her youth and ignored the covenant she made before God. Surely her house leads down to death and her paths to the spirits of the dead. None who go to her return or attain the paths of life.”

Her house leads down to death.

Would you like God to be any clearer on that?

Sexual sin destroys you. The seductive woman wants your life. Porn kills.

Like a spreading cancer that eventually destroys the whole body, so is the seductive power of sin. It will enslave its victim, sucking all that is good out of the person. My purpose in this blog is to give men a wake-up call to how wicked and destructive porn really is. Here’s some ways porn kills:

Theology
A man who has resigned himself to pornographic addiction will find not only his sexuality perverted, but his understanding of the gospel perverted. Often you will see those who are defeated by sin, instead of seeking freedom from sin, redefining what sin is, until they justify their behavior as normal and acceptable. The true gospel, its promises and demands, will be written off as idealism or fundamentalism, giving birth to licentiousness and liberalism. The sin you commit is the sin you permit.

Or the opposite may happen. The porn addict may reject the Bible altogether, hate God, hate His people, and hate the gospel. They will say, “God made me like this! God gave me these desires, and yet threatens me with the fires of hell for not keeping his unreasonable Law?”

Regardless of where they land, liberalism, atheism, and hatred of God are the only possible outcomes for anyone who lives under law and not under grace. True Christianity and its tenets will be quickly rejected by those who have resigned themselves to defeat. The condemnation is unbearable, and searing the conscience is the only escape.

Manhood
Porn addiction castrates men, steals our confidence, conceals our destiny, makes us weak-willed, and plants rage deep in the heart. Further, lust has an insatiable thirst, and is never satisfied. Therefore, it demands more and more perverted imagery, and once the addict gets bored, leads to the need for new and different kinds of sex. The end of the road is fornication, adultery, prostitutes, homosexuality, pedophilia, beastiality, violent sex, sexual assault, and rape. Believe me, pedophiles and rapists don’t just wake up one day and decide to commit those heinous crimes. They are led into it over time through pornography. Just ask Ted Bundy (you’ve got to see this):

I know men who had no homosexual tendencies whatsoever have gay experiences or become gay after porn addiction. Porn kills manhood.

Womanhood
Women lose their dignity. They are turned into sex objects, and feel dirty around you. God’s plan for a man to esteem a godly woman as a sister in Christ vanishes in the darkness of sin. Attempts at relationships fail because no sane woman with a sense of self-dignity wants to share your affections with a whore.

Relationships
For the unmarried, handicapped by unrealistic view of a sexual goddess, intimacy and marriage becomes elusive. I know many average-looking or flat ugly young men whose standards become perverted and ridiculous. They think they’re going to marry an airbrushed buxom vixen who will fulfill their sexual dreams every night for the rest of their lives. Good luck with that. True beauty is masked, and marriage becomes a phantom.

For the married, the addiction turns the man cold and the woman sour. Without grace, an irreparable rift sets in, until the marriage is completely destroyed.

Children weep.

A woman cries alone, insecure, unprotected, unloved.

Her house leads down to death.

Life
The climate of the soul in greatly corrupted by porn addiction. Rage, anger, fear, hatred, unforgiveness, apathy, laziness, suspicion, anxiety, depression, and scores of other horrible afflictions are the friend of the porn addict. Who would ever choose such misery?

Christ promises freedom and deliverance, and His word says that through the gospel “we shall reign in life” (Romans 5:17). I have no condemnation for anyone who reads this, no matter how dark your sins are, no matter how far you’ve strayed. I simply want to show you that porn is no friend of yours or the ones you love, and that we have hope through the gospel to walk in victory over sin. I want to convince you that we can enjoy sexual purity, and if God wills for you to marry, to enjoy a healthy and blessed marriage.

I love the old story of Hall of Fame Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach, a strong Christian who was often ribbed by teammates for his sexual integrity. One day, Staubach had enough, and said to his teammates, “Guys, I have just as much sex, if not more, than you do. It’s just with one woman!”

God created sex, and in the context of marriage, it is a great blessing. But we’ll never know that blessing if we don’t believe the gospel, allow Christ to transform us, and make us real men.
